Dear Friend of Hope After Loss (formerly the Hygeia Foundation),

This holiday season, we hope you will consider making a donation in support of Hope After Loss and our families, all of whom have suffered the loss of a much-loved baby.

Thanks to your financial support in 2014, we were able to expand our services to provide support groups, one-on-one support, and burial assistance to more bereaved families than ever before. We were also able to provide outreach and educational programs to medical professionals who care for members of our community. Looking ahead to 2015, we plan to increase the services provided to Connecticut families by initiating support groups in Middletown and New London, training additional volunteer support providers and enhancing our support programs, providing additional burial assistance funding to low-income families throughout the state, and by providing further outreach and educational programs to medical professionals. With your support, we can reach these goals and support all families in Connecticut who grieve the loss of a baby and seek support from a community that understands.

As of now, we have not met our annual financial goal, but we hope that you will help us make up that shortfall by making a year-end donation during the month of December.

Please click here to make a donation via credit card or check today.

Be sure to let us know if your donation is being made in memory of a baby who is no longer here with us, as we would be honored to send an acknowledgement of your generosity to the family.

We thank you for supporting Hope After Loss’ mission and our families throughout the year, and especially during this holiday season. Your year-end gift will allow us to continue to provide the support and services much needed by bereaved families throughout the coming year and beyond. On behalf of the Hope After Loss community and those who come to us for help during a time of great need, we thank you for making your donation today.

Hope After Loss logo

We are proud to announce that the Hygeia Foundation has a new name:

Hope After Loss

While our name has changed, our mission remains the same: to support the pregnancy and infant loss community. The butterflies in our new logo, which fly upward from loss toward hope, reflect the journey our community travels together.

Our programs and services also remain unchanged. Our support groups will continue as scheduled every month, and we hope to see you at an upcoming event.

One thing that has changed, however, is our contact information. Beginning now, please e-mail our staff at the following e-mail address:

Melissa Kish, Interim Executive Director/ Program Director
melissak@hopeafterloss.org

Our phone number has also changed: it is now 203-389-7399. Our 800 number is no longer in service.

Please update your address book now.

Over the coming weeks, we will roll out a new website at hopeafterloss.org, as well as new brochures and other materials. We ask for your patience and understanding during this time, as you may still receive materials with our former name on them as we transition to our new name.

We hope you join us in feeling excited about our new name and this new chapter in our organization’s history. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns. Thank you for being part of the Hope After Loss community.

November 10, 2014

We are now accepting nominations for our 2015 Compassionate Care Awards! The purpose of the Compassionate Care Awards is to recognize and promote excellence in the care of women and men who have experienced the loss of a pregnancy or infant. All health care providers in the state of Connecticut are eligible to be nominated by anyone in our community. If a health care provider has been a wonderful source of compassion and support to you or someone you know who has experienced the loss of a baby, we hope you will nominate the provider for this award.

To submit a nomination, please send us the following information by noon on Friday, November 14, 2014:

  1. The name of the person you are nominating.
  2. The nominee’s place of work.
  3. The nominee’s contact information.
  4. Your response to the following: “Please tell us how this nominee has provided excellent care to someone who has experienced the loss of a pregnancy or infant.”

Please e-mail your nomination to Gillian Eversman at gilliane@hopeafterloss.org.

The winners of the awards will be announced in early 2015, and the awards will be presented at a celebration in the spring of 2015. We look forward to receiving your nomination and hope to see you at the celebration!
